Museum of Islamic History of Science

The museum, where the works of Muslim scholars in the fields of astronomy, physics, chemistry, geography and medicine between the 8th and 16th centuries are exhibited and their approaches to knowledge and technology are conveyed, reflects their contribution to the shared heritage of humanity in a way befitting the magnificence that such a great civilization and strong tradition deserves.

The three-story school building from the 19th century that hosts the museum was designed to give the feeling of a workshop where scholars carried out their work, making it a part of the historical process being conveyed. The approximately 100 instruments in the museum, determined by experts in the history of Islamic science, were revived in the light of the descriptions given by the scholars in their works, thanks to the possibilities offered by the latest technology and craftsmen who perform delicate handwork. Various interactive applications were included to reinforce the experience of a historical journey in the museum.

Every stage of the museum, which opened to visitors in 2014 in Şahinbey, Gaziantep, reveals both the harmony of Muslims with nature and creation itself and the fact that they reflect that harmony in their work in the field of science and technology.
