First Martyr of May 27: Namık Gedik

The first martyr of 27th May Revolution, Minister of the Interior Dr. Namık Gedik, was one of the significant figures who served in the path of the nation and the country. His life’s various aspects are being brought to light in a panoramic framework, enriched with new information, documents, and photographs in this book.

Moving with the motivation of giving the people the word in choosing the fate of the country during the transitional period from one-party to multi-party politics; the generation of the time played a significant role in political formations. However, the normalization processes starting with the spirit of 1946 were disrupted by 27th May Revolution.

Minister of the Interior Dr. Namık Gedik, who stood out with his poems in his youth, was moved to involve in politics with an invitation from Prime Minister Adnan Menderes. He was elected as a member of the parliament under Democrat Party among the ones who cheered “Enough! The word belongs to the people!”

Besides individual topics including Namık Gedik, this work also contains arguments on the crucial question of leading causes to the first coup in Türkiye. In all of this, the main axis of the work has been centered on Namık Gedik, with an effort to analyze the topics regarding him as the focal point.
